Understanding Computer Networking in Modern Times

The understanding of computer networks for each person is different. Some say that the understanding of computer networks is a set of interconnected computers that form a system, some say that the understanding of computer networks is that computers can connect to one another Others and can share with each other. Maybe you have a computer network understanding with your own version. But from all existing sources of understanding computer networks, of course we can take a conclusion on the understanding of computer networks.


Understanding computer Networking is a system consisting of computers, software, and other devices that work together to achieve a common goal.

Next source I get from Wendell Odom's Cisco Networking First Step Book that understanding computer networks is a combination of hardware, software and wiring (cabling), which together allows various devices Computing to communicate with each other.

From the sources that I get above, I can conclude that the understanding of computer network is a set of computing tools and various network devices along with the software that relates to each other and then form a Systems and with the same purpose. These objectives are like a computer network that is made to share the files on the computer network, by transmitting the data using both wired and wireless media.


Of course, from my conclusion, it may still feel less in your opinion. Essentially, understanding computer networks is a variety of computer devices that connect with each other to communicate. Because electronic or computer tools of course have their own language so that they can connect and communicate with each other, using electrical signals transmitted via cable or wireless (without wires or Wireless). In the number system, these electrical signals are binary numbers or binary digits (i.e. a combination of 1 and 0).

The types of network according to its geographical location, divided into 4, namely:

There are two types of network that are commonly used, namely Client-Server and Peer-to-Peer.

Client-Server is a type of network that uses a computer as a Server or servers and other computers as clients or who want to be served.


  • Peer-to-Peer


Peer-to-Peer is a network type whose servers can be computer workstations (non-dedicated servers). On this network, each computer and other network device is connected directly to each computer connected to the computer network.

  • Network topology


Network topology is a way to connect the network devices to form a specific network system. Examples of network topology are:

  1. Bus topology
  2. Star topology
  3. Ring topology
  4. Mesh topology
  5. Tree topology
